About the show
Beyond The Pitch is a new and creative endeavor that has dedicated itself to the global game from numerous points of view. We not only provide our Anglo and Latin views on the game, but also seek out industry experts to offer their unique perspectives. Our goal is to provide our loyal listeners with numerous voices of analysis and deliver fresh new perspectives.
Beyond The Pitch has two hosts who bring very different opinions to the analysis, but there are some very interesting similarities too - they both like their idols in red, both like their strikers to be named George, and seriously relate to decorated players never given the privilege of playing for their country in a World Cup Final. Phil is the Manchester United supporter and Anto is the Milanista, and below is the tale of the tape.
George Best - Belfast, Northern Ireland
Manchester United (1963–1974), at Old Trafford
361 appearances / 137 goals
International: 37 appearances / 9 goals
Won the European Cup in 1968, and was named the European Footballer of the Year and Football Writers' Association Player of the Year. In 1999, Best was voted 11th at the IFFHS European Player of the Century election.
George Weah - Monrovia, Liberia
AC Milan (1995–2000), at the Milanello
114 appearances / 46 goals
International: 60 appearances / 22 goals
In 1995, he was named FIFA World Player of the Year, European Footballer of the Year, and African Footballer of the Year. Weah is a devoted humanitarian for his war-torn country. At the 2004 ESPY Awards, he won the Arthur Ashe Courage Award for his efforts.
