Eduardo Vargas Set to Join Cavani, Lavezzi and Hamsik

December 19, 2011 by BTP Staff

Unquestionably the hottest property in this year's Copa Sudamericana, 22-year-old Universidad de Chile superstar Eduardo Vargas has all but confirmed that he will join the club of Diego Maradona this January, after turning down moves to several other European giants.

Waiting for him there will be two other emerging South American superstars in their own right, Uruguayan striker and now club icon Edinson Cavani and Argentine international striker Ezequiel Lavezzi. Napoli, who took Serie A by storm last season and became something of a sensation in this year's Champions League group stage, have reached the Final 16 of the competition for the first time in their history.

In November 2011 Vargas was chosen as a candidate for South American Footballer of the Year, and in December, he was chosen Chilean Footballer of the Year 2011.

Eduardo Vargas rocketed to prominence by scoring twice in the Final of the 2011 Copa Sudamericana. His two goals helped "La U" achieve its first international title. And he was elected the best player of the tournament. Also, he is the top scorer in the history of the Copa Sudamericana with 11 goals.
